“It’s really more just about collecting things,” Chris Pratt tells GQ’s Drew Magary of his cache of arms. Pratt owns a lot of guns and likes to hunt, and as Magary learns firsthand, he is an excellent shot. This makes him a favorite famous face amongst the more conservative types – they find it refreshing to see a second amendment advocate being given the time of day amongst the traditionally left-wing Hollywood elite. The representation of responsible gun owners has spurred more people to look into acquiring firearms and becoming law-abiding gun owners too, driving more people on to check out things like the conceal carry laws in their state. Pratt says he particularly loves to hunt coyotes, which he shoots, skins, and tans by hand. “Coyotes are assholes, and they’ll eat your dog,” he explains. “I do a lot of predator hunting, farm varmints, out in Wyoming. Oh, my God. Get a farmer that’s just got too many and he’s like, kill as many as you want.'â Sometimes, Pratt tells Magary, he cleans coyote skins with his own urine.
Pratt is featured in the magazineâs annual Men of the Year issue, honoring the biggest superstars who have undeniably left their mark in 2014. Pratt covers the issue along with Dave Chappelle, Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, Steve Carell, and Michael Sam.
Pratt says he is ready to move on from the hit show Parks and Recreation. This will be its last season, and Pratt thinks it should be. âI think thereâs a collective feeling that people are creatively spent. You kind of run out of ideas.â He reveals that what he really wants to do is direct. âIâm always biting my tongue,â he says. âWhen Iâm on set, I kind of wish I could just tell everybody what to do. If I could tell everybody what to do, it would be great, and it would be done faster. And so thatâs what Iâm working toward. I want control. I want control over something.â
Pratt starred this year in Guardians of the Galaxy, one of the highest-grossing movies of 2014. He didnât see his weight as a problem when everyone thought he was too fat for his role. âYou can make a talking raccoon that looks real,â he says. âWhy canât I just be fat?â But he lost weight and got ripped anyway, because he likes the challenge of it. He says Fat Pratt is gone for good: âIâm done with that.â
Pratt recalls that Mickey Rourke once shushed Prattâs son, Jack, on an airplane during a long trip when Prattâs wife, Anna Faris, was trying desperately to calm the baby down. âLike SHHHH! Like heâs the baby whisperer. Like heâs gonna get the baby to stop crying when the babyâs mother canât, just by aggressively shushing the baby. Motherfucker. I was like, Damn, the fuckinâ Wrestler shushed my baby.'â
