This season Mike Vensel explores the INFINITE by thinking of fashion in a way that is both boundless and open to evolution and chance progression. This new collection opens a new chapter for the designer as he bridges two of his creative endeavors by merging his fashion design with his fine art. As an abstract expressionist painter for the past seventeen years he has explored the ways that art is made through simple mark making and the chance occurrences with the accidents that result in abstract compositions.
With seven years under his belt as a fashion designer he felt it was time to bridge the two worlds. The Mike Vensel Collection from its inception has been hand made in the USA from the finest materials with an eco friendly touch. This season he moves to make pieces even more unique with one of a kind hand painted items that will not be mass produced, in fact they will be treated like fine art objects to be collected and cherished, hand made by the designer and artist for the discerning collector who wants something that is extremely rare and unique.
INFINITE also explores the concept of cycles by utilizing chiffon made form recycled plastic bottles, and considers sustainability in small footprint production and evolving patterns and silhouettes from previous collections to fit new ideas. “With all of the waste in the modern world its a shame that the fashion industry dictates that we consume and destroy products season after season to suit its sales objectives”, “A much more efficient way to live in harmony with nature is to buy fashion that is timeless and requires the wearer to only chance or replace items as they no longer suit the wearer or simply just wear out from use”.
