Vegan Fashion Week Returns to Los Angeles in October. An Experience Designed to Empower Conscious Creatives and Solidify Los Angeles as The Ethical Fashion Destination.
Vegan Fashion Week returns to Los Angeles on October 8-9 for its third edition to present a curated lineup of international designers. This season’s theme, “Expansion”, explore the challenges our planet is facing through the lenses of fashion.
Revitalizing the historic heart of downtown Los Angeles to celebrate the city’s creative essence, VFW is transforming the city’s skyline into a backdrop for its fall fashion shows perched in the penthouse of the USC Tower, a 138m skyscraper in the South Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, sister neighborhood of the Fashion District.
As the industry becomes increasingly more aware of fashion’s intersection with social justice and environmental issues, VFW continues to further this dialogue by supporting designers that address matters from gender identity, to ethics and sustainability. In celebration of their diverse cultures and lifestyles, this year’s designers surpass industry standards of presenting impressive runway collections by offering solutions to pertinent issues plaguing the industry, like fashion’s carbon footprint, while simultaneously prioritizing the preservation of the environment and its animal inhabitants.
This season’s program includes four fashion shows with designers hailing from various countries and nationalities, including South Korea’s Vegan Tiger, and for the first time Argentina will be represented by Buenos Aires-based Romina Cardillo and her brand Nous Etudions (Antispeciesist Brand, LVMH Prize Shortlists 2020). LA’s very own Fan All Flames will present their new collection and local artist Parker Day will bring her photography to life on the runway to launch her first fashion brand, Pure Void.
“Vegan Fashion Week is a snapshot of this buzzing unleashed creativity, waiting for the right platform to exist. We represent the voice of a generation that is tired of being greenwashed or fed elitist narratives,” said Vegan Fashion Week founder and creative director, Emmanuelle Rienda “It is not about being perfect, it’s about inspiring change and creating an ecosystem around values that are truly impactful for humans and non-humans.”
In addition to the fashion shows, Industry professionals and fashion lovers are invited to shop at Vegan World, a marketplace featuring a global curation of 20 animal-free, sustainable fashion designers. The public can join panel conversations featuring textile designer Desserto, a vegan cactus leather innovation from Mexico and a fashion film screening experience by the Los Angeles Fashion Festival.
VFW intends to reduce the impact of the event by minimizing the venue space usage, timeline of the event, mobility, transportation, packaging, energy use, and materials through precise waste management and solely providing vegan food and beverages. COVID-19 safety measures will be enforced in accordance with CDC guidelines.
